One such perfumed flower is the port-wine magnolia. Its perfume is overwhelming ; it pervades the garden. Sniff the air and you will wonder what c ould be producing such a sweet scent. You may notice a large green shrub but dismiss it as too boring to smell so good. Wrong! Hidden among those green leaves are mauve-brown flowers and each one emits a powerfull tutti-frutti aroma.Officially, the port-wine magnolia is a michelia, which is closely related to the magnolia. The beautiful Michelia doltsopa, for example, has large creamy flowers that look like a flock of big white birds settled among the large leaves, and the gorgeous deciduous magnolias , such as Magnolia  x soulangeana, have huge pink or cream goblet flowers.
